– The Queen of Soul Presents a Treasure Trove of Classic Performances –
ARETHA FRANKLIN PRESENTS: SOUL REWIND, a comprehensive collection of rare performances by legendary R&B performers of the classic 1960s-70s soul era, offers an abundance of long-lost archival material that has been recovered from film vaults across the United States, England, Germany and France. The Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, presents this treasure trove of precious and vital footage. The program is part of special programming airing in July-August 2010 on WPBT2.
The latest installment in the MY MUSIC series represents the culmination of many years of research and planning. Among the historical performances are a wealth of selections from Dick Clark Productions’ landmark series “American Bandstand” and “Where the Action Is.” These full-length songs haven’t been seen since their sole network broadcasts more than four decades ago.
SOUL REWIND features wall-to-wall classics such as:
- “Respect” − Aretha Franklin
- “What’d I Say” − Ray Charles
- “Try a Little Tenderness” − Otis Redding
- “When a Man Loves a Woman” − Percy Sledge
- “In the Midnight Hour” − Wilson Pickett
- “Let’s Stay Together” − Al Green
- “Dancing in the Street” − Martha and the Vandellas
- “Uptight” − Archie Bell and the Drells
- “Going to a Go-Go” − Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
- “Who’s Making Love” − Johnnie Taylor
- “Oh Girl” − The Chi-Lites
- “When Will I See You Again” − The Three Degrees
- “I’ll Be Around” − The Spinners
Notes executive producer TJ Lubinsky, “Being able to see the original artists perform their original hits in their prime as they were first experienced by kids back then is nothing less than mind-boggling. What a thrill it is to return to the roots and soul of American popular music in the 60s — and to have this program presented by the royalty of Aretha Franklin is such a tremendous honor.”
ARETHA FRANKLIN PRESENTS: SOUL REWIND marks Lubinsky’s latest special for PBS. Past programs include ED SULLIVAN’S ROCK ‘N’ ROLL CLASICS – THE SIXTIES, THE BIG BAND YEARS, MAGIC MOMENTS, THE BRITISH BEAT, THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND, DOO WOP LOVE SONGS AND MOTOWN MEMORIES.
