Haunted by the death of her mother and lifelong estrangement from her father, Lucy Maud Montgomery created the character of Anne Shirley in response to the loneliness and isolation she experienced as a child. The children’s classic ANNE OF GREEN GABLES chronicles the life of the spirited orphan Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) on Price Edward Island, Canada, from her struggles as an adolescent to her triumphs as a young woman. Filmed on location amidst the spectacular scenery of Prince Edward Island, the miniseries is an epic masterpiece full of wit, style and emotional power. Originally airing on CBC television as a two-part miniseries in December 1985, the program premiered on public television in the United States in February of 1986 and has been a favorite of fans young and old ever since. The series also stars Academy Award-nominee Richard Farnsworth and Tony Award-winner Colleen Dewhurst.
