In the early decades of electrifying, joyful, exuberant – just a few of the words that describe this live concert starring the voice of America’s girl groups of the ’60 and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Darlene Love. Taped at The Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, N.J., this new compilation feeds hungry fans an auditory feast of Darlene’s expansive repertoire from her gospel beginnings and rock-and-roll signature songs to Broadway favorites. Hand-picked by music legend himself, Phil Spector, Ms. Love is widely considered the voice that launched a hundred hits. During the 1960’s mega girl-group era, she sang backup for artists like Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Cher, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. A favorite of David Letterman, Love has performed on his Late Night Christmas special since 1986 and played on Broadway as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray. In 2010 she toured as Miss Sherman, the only American in the Australian production of FAME in the lead of Miss Sherman. DARLENE LOVE: THE CONCERT OF LOVE is sassy, spirited and unedited as Love brings down the house with fan favorites including “Wait Til My Bobby Gets Home,” “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” “He’s A Rebel,” and David Letterman’s favorite – “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home).”
