La Cocina Cubana: Secretos de mi Abuela is a nostalgic program that centers around classic Cuban cuisine while paying tribute to the island¹s best chefs: the abuelas.

The kitchen in the Cuban household is not only the place where great delicacies are prepared - it is the heart of the home. Here, gatherings take place, meals are shared and home remedies are prepared.

The Cuban abuela (the grandmother) has a recipe for everything. No matter what the ailment, the abuelita always comes to the rescue. The Cuban grandmother is a vanishing breed. Not even the passing of time nor foreign customs in exile have been able to sway the way she sees the world, raises her family or more importantly prepares her food.

Permeating all aspects of Cuban culture is the food. Mouth-watering dishes and rich desserts have the power to transport the viewer to a different time and place. Ancient recipes and secret ingredients will be explored. Learn about their origins and get tips from the pros. Through the use of old photographs and archival footage we will try to capture the flavors and aromas that bring back memories of a time gone by.
