Miami, FL, April 15, 2011 – Dr. Sanford L. Ziff has made a commitment of $500,000 to Community Television Foundation of South Florida, the non-profit organization that operates WPBT2, the PBS station in Miami.

Dr. Ziff describes his commitment as a “strategic gift” intended to support quality programs on public television while encouraging philanthropy in general.

“I love WPBT2 and the quality programming on PBS,” said Dr. Ziff. “I want to encourage others in the community to support the station and other non-profit organizations that are important to them. By giving generously together, we make our community stronger.”

“A vibrant public television station contributes to the quality of life of a community,” said Rick Schneider, WPBT2’s president. “Dr. Ziff’s wonderful generosity is an inspiration to all of us who care about South Florida.”

Dr. Ziff was a practicing optometrist when he founded Sunglass Hut, leading to his subsequent career as an entrepreneur and humanitarian. His main focus in recent years has been philanthropy to make Miami a better place.
