WPBT2 Pays Tribute to Cuba with El Alma de Cuba with Enrique Chia CONTACT: May 10, 2011 – Miami, FL – WPBT2 takes viewers on a musical journey through the first half of 20th century Cuba with El Alma de Cuba with Enrique Chia on Sunday, June 5 at 8:00pm. Enrique Chia, internationally renowned pianist, will perform and pay tribute to the great Cuban songbook. The concert will provide an anthology of Cuban music as well as Cuban culture. Celebrate the elegance and style of this golden era with classical selections such as “Nosotros,” “Alborada” and “Para Mi Cuba Traigo Un Son,” and reminisce to the music of top composers Ernesto Lecuona, Gonzalo Roig, Sanchez de Fuente and many more. A compilation of rare photographs and archival footage will showcase Cuba’s beauty while dancers perform to the musical scores that capture the magic of the island. At a time when Cuba was the musical mecca of Latin America, performers such as Olga Guillot, Benny More and Perez Prado made their mark internationally. The songs that became popular during this era captured the essence of a time and a place. This special will bring that feeling back to life. Enrique Chia’s first Public Television special Sentimental Piano, which premiered in 2004, quickly became an audience favorite. Eternal Cuba with Enrique Chia was an Emmy-award winner. Both programs were distributed nationally.
