Premiere of Public Television Series, Changing Seas, Features the War on Lionfish CONTACT: Miami, FL, May 23, 2011 – Changing Seas, an original production of Miami’s public television station WPBT2, will host a live online screening event of Alien Invaders, the series’ latest episode focusing on the lionfish invasion in the Caribbean and Western Atlantic. Alien Invaders will be screened live on the Changing Seas website (www.changingseas.tv/webcast) on Thursday, June 2nd at 7:30 p.m, Eastern Standard Time. During the screening, dive enthusiasts will have the opportunity to join an online chat with producers and the experts featured in the program. Native to the Indo-Pacific, the invasive lionfish has successfully established itself in the western Atlantic, Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. With no natural predators in its new range, a voracious appetite, and the ability to reproduce quickly, the species is a major threat to biodiversity and the health of already stressed coral reef ecosystems. Alien Invaders takes viewers to the Bahamas, where experts from the Reef Environmental Education Foundation and Simon Fraser University are researching the invasion and looking for ways to minimize its impact. Featuring stunning underwater footage, Alien Invaders provides an in-depth look into the issue, as well as the creative solutions experts have devised to combat the problem. The program’s broadcast premiere on WPBT2 is on June 7th at 7:30 pm. Starting June 8th, the program will also be available for viewing on the WPBT2 Video Player at: http://video.wpbt2.org/program/1334903101/. This June, Changing Seas returns to the airwaves and internet with four new exciting episodes.
